Kurt Muroki, Double Bass

a native of Maui, Hawaii, began his musical studies on the violin at the age of six and performed with the Honolulu and Maui Symphony. Mr. Muroki went on to study the double bass at the age of thirteen and entered The Juilliard School of Music at seventeen. Kurt is a bassist with Speculum Musicae, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra, Concertante Chamber Players, subs in the American Symphony Orchestra, New York City Ballet, and EOS Orchestra, to name a few. He is the bassist at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, and BargeMusic. This upcoming season Kurt will be performing with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Mr. Muroki has won numerous competitions including the Aspen Music Festival Double Bass Competition, the New World Symphony Concerto Competition, and the Honolulu Symphony Young Artists Competition, and was a finalist in the Houston Symphony Concerto Competition. In 2002 he performed in concert with the Guarneri, Juilliard, Tokyo and Colorado Quartets, and pianists Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida. He has also performed concert tours throughout Asia and the United States.
